My name’s Kelly. I’m 17 and I’m from Toronto.
My name’s Faiza and I work at Lorraine Kimsa Theatre for Young People. I’m 18 years old and I live in west-end Toronto.
What I do in the summer job is I work basically in different departments. I work with my boss Greg. I go to different neighbourhoods, areas and we work with kids and do workshops based on bullying, anti-violence and stuff like that. And, while I’m not outside, I’m here and I supervise the drama kids after-school program. I play along with them.
They describe it as intern but I do a lot with the different departments in the building – production the drama school, the education department, kind of little things that need to be done to set-up for the next season.
I think being an usher during the regular season – I thought it was pretty cool you get to read the scripts for the next season so I know what to expect before anyone else does.
It’s great because you see the kids they know how to act, right. Surprisingly, little kids, they can act, really and truly. I was pretty shocked. I’m like, wow, and the shows are great.
I just know myself, even in high school, I was never too interested in acting and things like that but becoming just an usher it’s really opened me up to the world of theatre and it’s more than just acting and drama. There’s a lot of depth into it and it’s a really interesting experience.
